Happn is off to a strong start in India, hitting 200,000 users in just over a week.

The company is very keen to push its presence in the market, where there is huge potential, just like rival Tinder, which sees India as one of its “key” regions for growth.

And after launching in India last week, the company already has 200,000 new users, with CEO & founder Didier Rappaport saying it hopes to have over 1m in the region by the end of the year.

The CEO also told Economic Times that Happn is in talks to raise a huge new round of Series C funding by August that could be in the region of €40-50m.

Launched in February 2014, Happn currently has over 17m users and is live in 40 major cities worldwide, including Paris, London, Hong Kong and New York.

Earlier this month, the company released an offline feature called See You There, a new product update that lets users say whether they are free in the next few hours.

When using the feature, Happn members detail what they are free to do in the next four hours, and have six options to choose from, including “Go for a walk”, “Get a drink”, “Go out”, “Grab a bite”, “Go for a run” or “Catch a movie”.

Happn said the release is the start of a “new era” for the product, saying its mission is now focused on “encouraging real-life encounters.”
