New Study on the Factors Influencing First Date Sex

Lovehoney, a global leader in sexual happiness, has released a new study exploring sex on the first date, and why people may or may not be interested in it. The company spoke with over 2,000 American adults to hear their thoughts on the dating trend.

49% of respondents shared that they have had sex on the first date. Those aged 18-24 are less likely to have had sex on the first date compared to the 45-54 year old demographic, the study shares.

So why do people want to have sex on the first date? 70% of men reported that they were open to sex on the first date, with the most common reason being that they simply enjoy it.

However 61% of women said they would not be open to sex on the first date. But for those who women who are open to it, the most common reason is to see if they have sexual compatibility with their partner immediately.

Now that we understand the reasons why, it’s also important to understand the factors why people are not having sex on the first date.

For those who’ve never had sex on the first date, the most common reason they haven’t tried it is because they don’t feel comfortable being intimate with someone they don’t know very well.

The next most common reason is that respondents don’t believe in having sex on the first date, and that sex is only enjoyable when there is an emotional connection. The study found that men are more likely than women to want emotional closeness before sexual activity.

17% of these respondents shared that the risks of pregnancy and STIs were the reason that they were choosing not to have sex on the first date.
