The Meet Group Hires Norman Petty as New General Counsel

The Meet Group has announced the appointment of Norman Petty as the company’s new General Counsel from the beginning of this week.

He’ll lead the internal legal team while also overseeing the trust and safety department, to make sure users are as secure as possible while using the suite of dating and live streaming products. The new hire is expected to add international expertise as The Meet Group continues to expand, with an added focus on the EMEA and APAC regions.

Petty joins from Dow Jones, publisher of The Wall Street Journal, where he served as Senior Vice President and Associate General Counsel for 25 years.

He commented in a statement: “I am delighted to join The Meet Group at this exciting phase of the company’s growth.

“In addition to its social discovery and online dating apps, I’ve been impressed by The Meet Group’s leadership in developing industry-leading safety practices and best-in-class safety features for its apps. I look forward to helping build upon the company’s success.”

Part of his role is to also assist the overall corporate development by providing counsel on key legal and safety matters and wider vPaas opportunities.

CEO Geoff Cook added: “[Petty’s] extensive legal, corporate development, and consumer protection and privacy experience will be instrumental as we continue to grow our interactive dating solutions business and bring our video platform as a service product to more providers, all while delivering on our mission to meet the need for human connection.”

The Meet Group participated in ‘Safer Internet Day’ in February as part of its commitment to looking after users on social networking platforms.
