YouGov: Exploring Singapore’s Dating App Concerns
In the second part of YouGov’s recent study, it found that 76% of Singapore residents have never tried a dating app before. The research explores the significant concerns that citizens have, and their preferences for a romantic partner.
YouGov’s Singapore dating surveys highlighted trends within the country’s dating scene. In the second part of its research, it found that 76% of residents have never tried online dating. But why is this?
Common concerns
The most common reason was that they’re simply not looking for a relationship. But for those who are, 27% said they have concerns about catfishing and fake profiles. Furthermore, 24% said that they prefer to meet new people through in-person experiences.
Some other concerns raised by love-seeking singles was that they’re hesitant to publish personal details, dating preferences, or photos, on a dating app platform. Additionally, 18% told YouGov that they are skeptical of the effectiveness of dating apps in fostering serious relationships.
Among Singapore residents who are looking to date, only 11% say they are likely to try a dating app in the future. 29% told the researchers that they would never use one.
Dating preferences
92% of Singapore residents agreed that sharing similar values and outlook on life is a ‘very important’ or ‘fairly important’ trait in a partner. The next most important traits are physical appearance, shared religious views, compatible interests, and similar food tastes.
But which dating apps are most likely to help highlight someone with these desirable characteristics? Daters on eHarmony, Hinge, Lunch Actually are most likely to hold similar values and outlook in life as core values, the survey found.
Physical appearance and overall attractiveness are valued most by singles on Hinge, Grindr, and Tinder. Sharing similar religious views is highly important to those on happn, eHarmony, and Hinge, the research found.
