WhatsApp Adds Document-Sharing Feature As Part Of New Business-Focused Plan

WhatsApp is starting to give the messaging app a more business-orientated slant, rolling out a feature that lets users share documents with each other.

The massively popular messaging app is currently rolling out a file-sharing feature on both iOS and Android.

When you click into a chat with someone and tap the arrow button where you normally share videos, contacts and photos, there is now an option to “Share Document”.

However, the feature will currently only work if the person you are chatting to has updated their WhatsApp to receive documents.

And at the moment, although you can share documents from Google Drive, Dropbox & iCloud Drive, it can currently only be used to share PDFs.

In February, WhatsApp announced it had hit 1bn users, meaning 1 in 7 people in the world use the messaging app every month.

And this seemingly small recent update is part of WhatsApp’s new focus on business features and commercial services – which CEO Jan Koum said will include helping consumers get in contact with businesses.
