Approach Dating: Tackling Dating App Hopelessness

Missouri-based dating app Approach Dating is looking to address that hopeless feeling users face in online dating. The app lets users see a radar-view of all users and recommends partnered organisations which will provide an ideal first-date environment.

The app’s website shares that 72% of dating app users feel hopeless after trying online dating, and that 35 million Americans spend over 10 hours a week failing to find love online.

To cut down this 10 hours, Approach Dating doesn’t allow for swiping, instead showing users all the profiles at once. After identifying a user of interest, singles can then send them a message recommending they go on a date at a local partnered business.

These businesses are suggested date locations that provide the ideal setting for a first date, with discounted services on offer. These include ice cream parlours, yoga studios, bars, and more.

The platform was created by Allison and Riley, two single women who realised they “didn’t have time to waste swiping and messaging for such little return”, the website explains.

In July 2022, Approach Dating was accepted into Newchip’s global accelerator program.

Online dating companies like  Approach can scale quickly with proper funding and guidance. We are excited for Approach and believe they will do well at Newchip”, said Armando Vera Carvajal, Vice President of Product at Newchip.
