Bumble’s Chief Brand Officer Alex Williamson is on the cover of the first edition of Women in Computing, a magazine campaign launched by Mediaplanet to encourage more women to pursue a career in the computing industry.
The magazine was distributed for free inside the San Francisco Chronicle, to an estimated readership of over 400,000. The roll-out comes at the end of March, internationally recognised as Women’s History Month.
Williamson took part in an exclusive interview to discuss why it is so important to get more women into the technology sector, and to give advice to any aspiring app-builders.
She told Mediaplanet: “Representation and mentorship are so important. When women see other women in leadership and tech roles, it’s easier for a young woman to see herself in those shoes.
“One of the most important things that we can do for the next generation of women is to create a seat at the table for them. We need to be promoting fearlessness in women in business and reminding women that they can and should get involved in tech.”
To celebrate International Women’s Day, Bumble announced the five female-led startups that received VC funding as part of the Bumble Fund. Applications for the next round of investments are open now.
The Female Film Force is also now accepting nominations for the second consecutive year. Female filmmakers from the UK, Germany and France are given the chance to receive a £20,000 contribution toward their short film.
