GDI would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended our exclusive audience with Facebook on Saturday 4th March in Barcelona.

The event was a chance for the dating industry to meet, network and gain invaluable insights from our keynote speaker, Facebook’s Enno Jönsson, along with event sponsors Cake, TokBox and Dating Factory.

Held at the Eclipse Bar in Barcelona’s W Hotel, with over 110+ attendees, first up we had Cake’s Elizabeth D’Arcy-Potts, who offered up three tips for companies looking to transform their affiliate programmes, giving valuable insights about implementing feedback loops and tracking affiliate channels.

Lawrence Ford from TokBox was up next, a San Francisco-based company that lets brands integrate live video chat into their services, who spoke about the explosion of live video in recent years and why the dating industry is ripe for a move in this direction.

After a break for more drinks and networking, the last sponsor talk came from Sharan Garcha from Dating Factory, who welcomed everyone to GDI’s first European event of 2017, and spoke on the competitive nature of the dating landscape.

The main event of the afternoon was a fantastic talk from Facebook’s Enno Jönsson, who delivered a wide-ranging keynote about how we connect and communicate online.

The talk offered up a host of astounding stats about Facebook and the social world online, including that one in four mobile minutes in the UK alone are spent on Facebook and Instagram, and that on average, you will spend one sixth of your life watching videos.

Enno Jönsson went on to explain how mobile has made marketing more visual and exactly what Facebook’s advertising platform has to offer businesses looking to boost interaction and engagement with consumers.

The talk closed with Jönsson announcing some very exciting news: Facebook is opening up its advertising platform to dating brands, companies able to apply to advertise on the platform again after the sector was barred back in 2014.
