Dating App Show ‘Parental Guidance’ Premieres on Snapchat

Snapchat

Snapchat has announced a new dating-based series will be released on its Discover platform.

Parental Guidance will premiere today (24th July) and will see parents accessing their children’s dating app accounts.

The parents will swipe through profiles, send messages to potential matches, before ultimately setting their son or daughter up on a date.

The show has been created by Vertical Networks, one of the biggest digital production companies specialising in Snapchat originals.

Tom Wright, the CEO of Vertical Networks, told The Hollywood Reporter: “Parental Guidance is about exploring the gap between who we really are and how we choose to present ourselves to the world.

“In introducing parents and letting them see how their children have been dating, we add another layer of awkwardness.”

One of Vertical Networks biggest shows, Phone Swap, gave two people access to each other’s phone, before deciding to go out on a date or not. It peaked at 14 million viewers and has been picked up for TV adaptation.

The premiere of Parental Guidance comes as part of the planned expansion of Snapchat Shows, details of which were announced at Vidcon last month.
